As with many other things that do not fall into the categories of “black and white”, letter Ğ is one of those letters that we know exist and yet it is so difficult to define it, that it would be easier not to talk about it altogether. Not a vowel and not a consonant, sometimes referred to as a voiced velar fricative (which makes it all the more confusing), Ğ remains an intrinsic part of the new Azeri alphabet familiar to those who speak the language and hardly explicable to those who do not know it. It doesn’t cease to exist, though.
