Love

Whereas it’s true that there is always suffering in the absence of love and belonging, it is also true that there can be no belonging without self-acceptance. These are just a couple of thoughts that resonated with me having read Brené Brown’s “Atlas of the Heart” in which she summarizes the outcome of a research, which helped her identify 87 human emotions and meaningful experiences. As it turns out – the majority of people can identify only 3 of those emotions – happiness, sadness and anger. As for the rest – it’s all a little mushy. And that says a lot about the missed opportunities to feel things which could make our lives so much more worthwhile. So, you will be hearing more about this book from me. As a matter of fact, I intend to offer my reflections on every single one of those emotions and experiences in a form of  #87emotionschallenge encouraging us all to reflect on those emotions. But for now – this.

Love. Emotion number 1 as per my book of emotions. On the Valentine’s Day I wish you all to worry less about those flowers and champagne, but rather make the time and space to be vulnerable, even if a little bit uncomfortable, with your loved ones. Go have that conversation whether with your partner, lover, child or a pet, or even – with yourself, about how your relationship works: what are you greatful for? But also – what doesn’t work and still needs to be adjusted to make your truthful self blossom? Don’t brush those things under the carpet because they can become both – either the crumbles that could put you on a pathway to more intimacy and closeness, or the things that make your relationship crumble. And although to speak about them seems to be much harder than to remain silent and „have some fun”, it feels like these heart-felt, yet at the same time hardcore conversations might just be the greatest gift we can give to each other.
